  • Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)

Relationships and Health Education is a statutory part of the primary curriculum in England and is taught as part of our wider Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) education programme. From September 2026, schools will follow the updated statutory guidance for Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE).

At Grange Park Primary School, our RSHE curriculum is designed to help children develop the knowledge, understanding and skills they need to build positive, respectful and safe relationships, make informed decisions about their health and wellbeing, and recognise when they or someone else may need help or support. This includes learning about relationships with family and friends, relationships within the wider community and staying safe both in person and online.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that learning is revisited and developed as children move through the school. It is delivered through the Relationships and Changing Me units of the Jigsaw PSHE programme, alongside other aspects of our wider PSHE curriculum. Teaching is age-appropriate and takes account of pupils’ developmental stage and the needs of our school community.

Relationships Education is statutory for all primary pupils, and schools are also required to teach Health Education. At Grange Park, we also provide age-appropriate sex education in Years 5 and 6 as part of our RSHE programme. This learning is carefully sequenced across the two year groups and supports pupils to develop their understanding of puberty, reproduction and the physical and emotional changes associated with growing up, preparing them for the next stage of their education and development.

Our approach promotes respect, kindness, inclusion and understanding of the diverse families and communities in which children live, while ensuring that teaching is factual, age-appropriate and in line with statutory guidance.

You can find further government guidance about Relationships, Sex and Health Education here.

You can also view the slides from our parent workshops below, which provide further information about how RSHE is implemented at Grange Park and include examples of the learning covered at different ages.
